JOE DANTE – Recipient of the PRICE AWARD

JOE DANTE – what can we say, he’s constantly created outstanding genre movies and brought to life some of the most iconic images in Hollywood history.  He started as a graduate of the Philadelphia College of Art. After a stint as a film reviewer, then like many served his apprenticeship as trailer editor ROGER CORMAN’S New World Pictures. He made his directorial debut in 1976 with HOLLYWOOD BOULEVARD (co-directed with Allan Arkush), then followed up with PIRANHA, THE HOWLING, GREMLINS (1 & 2), THE BURBS, MATINEE, THE HOLE and soon to be released BURYING THE EX. We’re proud to have JOE be the first ever recipient of the PRICE AWARD.

DICK MILLER – One of the great, if not the greatest genre character actors of his generation. Known early in his career for the screen character Walter Paisley, in ROGER CORMAN’S  BUCKET OF BLOOD (1959), MILLER spent the next 20 years working in CORMAN productions. In 1975 he appeared in JOE DANTE’S  first film, the New World Production HOLLYWOOD BOULEVARD. And from that day onward MILLER forged a unique working relationship with DANTE, appearing in almost everything he directed. MILLER has played many variations on his famous Walter Paisley role, in TWILIGHT ZONE and CHOPPING MALL. One of his best performances is as the odd, occult-bookshop owner in THE HOWLING (1981). We’re very proud to have DICK be the first ever recipient of the IMPACT AWARD.

VICTORIA PRICE – Daughter of famed iconic actor, art lover and collector VINCENT PRICE. VICTORIA has helped  the VINCENT PRICE ART MUSEUM grow into one of over 9,000 pieces. In 1951, impressed by the spirit of the students and the community’s need to experience original art works first hand, VINCENT PRICE donated some 90 pieces from his own collection to EAST LOS ANGELES COLLEGE in Monterey Park, California, thus establishing the VPAM, the first “teaching art collection” owned by a community college in the United States. We are honored to be presenting the family authorized PRICE AWARD at this years HHF. It recognizes an artist whose work has achieved iconic status, and celebrates the continuing legacy to the one, the only VINCENT PRICE.

RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD – Cast & Crew 30th Anniversary Reunion

Probably the largest cast & crew reunion in recent years of the funniest zombie horror-comedy ever captured on celluloid, RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD. Plus it’s the 30th Anniversary of the actual filming of the late, great DAN O’BANNON classic. And what a cast we have for you, live in-person – BEVERLY RANDOLPH, JEWEL SHEPARD, MIGUEL A. NUNEZ Jr., JOHN PHILBIN, THOM MATTHEWS, BRIAN PECK, TONY GARDNER, STANZI STOKES and the great JAMES KAREN. Definitely a night not to be missed.

The uber-creative team of JOSEPH GUZMAN and ROBERT HAYES continues to blaze quite a trail through the current indie horror scene.  GUZMAN’S first feature as a director was the ultra-violent “RUN, BITCH RUN!”, which starred Christina DeRosa and Cheryl Lyone.  This was swiftly followed with the show-stopping and now classic “NUDE NUNS WITH BIG GUNS” (starring ASUN ORTEGA, DAVID CASTRO and BILL OBERST JR.).  Both films were made through their own FREAKSHOW ENTERTAINMENT production company and both co-written & co-produced by fellow FREAKSHOW compadre ROBERT HAYES.  Their current film is the chilling “BACK ALLEY BUTCHER.”

Celebrated author, legendary FANGORIA journalist and probably one of the nicest people in the horror business today.  PAT JANKIEWICZ recently followed up his first Award winning book “Just When You Thought It Was Safe: A JAWS Companion” with an outstanding historical look at the classic TV series, “THE INCREDIBLE HULK.”  Appropriately titled “You Wouldn’t Like Me When I’m Angry! (A Hulk Companion)” it’s published by BearManor Media.  JANKIEWICZ probably knows everyone who’s anyone in the business today (from Romero to Cameron) and is an authoritative voice on the contemporary horror movie scene.  Renaissance man that he is, JANKIEWICZ even takes time off to act in movies as varied as “K-PAX” & the recent release “GANGSTER SQUAD.”
